Approach

I chose to make this image primarly monochromatic in order to make it easier to print on the Rugby Ball product but also to have more focus put onto the illustration itself since it has a lot of details for a logo. I went to the client three times to approve different designs for the project and created 3 different logo and branding options for the final designs.

Results

The rugby product with the logo and the logo itself were used by the Boundurant High School for Social Media and other products. The high school team members as well as the school raised money for their sports team through the branding's success.

Night of the Maddening Star

Project Overview

The Night of the Maddening Star Project was to be created within a week for a gamejam. It involved modifying the Cairn rules to fit the setting and creating a module story as well as creating logos, branding colors and typography, book formatting, and illustrations for the inside.

Key Elements

  • Logo Design
  • Rugby Product Design
  • Color Palette

Programs Used

  • Clip Studio Paint EX - for digital illustration
  • Adobe Illustrator - for packaging design and layout
  • Adobe Photoshop - for image editing and digital asset creation
  • Adobe InDesign - for packaging design and layout

Colors Used

  • Black (#040404) - Primary color
  • Bright Red (#45b0d8) - Accent color
  • White (#ffff) - Secondary color

Approach

I studied a lot of Grimm Fairytale images to inspire the art direction and colors for the module since the game system was intended to create a grimm fairytale-like experience. I chose to create this game by first creating an outline for the different paths of the module. I then created a map using a custom map creator like Inkarnate for the Overworld map. I then designed my own icons and the like for the map. I then created the Game Master tools section and created the illustrations and creatures for the module. The creatures were first sketched on paper and then digitazed on Clip Studio Paint Ex for the final drawing to include in the module. I wanted to have several unique creatures so that it had some variety to the encounters.

Results

This game was downloaded by more than 200 players and mostly recieved a positive reception on Social Media (such as Twitter (X)) and on itch.io. This game was designed in a way that was easy for the Game Master to read and take notes on for hidden parts of the game (such as the solution to puzzles) while also being able to be played in different ways by players to make playing the game different on every playthrough. Most modules typically only have one path while this one has multiple paths to get to the end so it can be reused and the game will be mostly different from the previous playthrough.

  • Branding Guide
  • Digital Assets

Programs Used

Approach

The Graphic Design senior project required material for advertising the senior project showcase at the Art Center in addition to digital assets for the game such as a custom font and logo. I started with the elements that were needed sooner for the presentation (such as the font) and then did the elements that were not as neccessary last: such as the posters. I created mock-ups for each product and design and showcased it to the teachers and the class (the clients) to gain feedback for each iteration until the final one.

Results

The presentation was more successful and memorable due to the additional assets I created and I inspired more students to join Grand View University and take the Game Design programs. This resulted in Grand View University getting more students and funding for their next semester. On top of this, more students arrived to the Art Center since the advertising material was successful in letting them know about the event.
